Mia Khalifa's appearance had some fans raving at her cameo, however, some found it offensive along with the 'stereotyping' of Emiratis
Spoilers for 'Ramy' Season 2
When the second season of 'Ramy' starts, the titular character, Ramy Hassan (played by series co-creator, Ramy Youssef) is trying to get closer to his faith and in doing so, he approaches the leader of a Sufi Mosque in New Jersey, Sheikh Ali Malik (Mahershala Ali) and confesses his porn addiction while trying to convey that he is trying to better himself.
Sheikh Ali suggests Ramy think from the porn actor's point of view and imagine their pain. While we don't initially make much of this, the fourth episode of the show gives Ramy this exact opportunity. When Ramy approaches an Emirati businessman to donate to the mosque, he takes a tour of the man's lavish home and grounds. While doing so, he runs into the former porn star, Mia Khalifa (playing herself) in the large mansion.
We learn that the Emirati businessman likes to "conquer" everything and while trying to conquer his own porn addiction, he realized that if he associated Mia with his mother, he would not "jerk off to her anymore." So, he keeps Mia in his home to buy her breast milk so he can drink it now and again. When Ramy is at his house, the businessman also makes Ramy have a sip of the milk
Mia's appearance had fans raving at her role. One fan tweeted, "I'm so pumped that @miakhalifa makes an appearance on Ramy," while another wrote, "I can’t see #Ramy since I’m from Mx and don’t have Hulu BUT I’m happy and proud bc a lot of people is FINALLY discovering the amazing and powerful woman @miakhalifa actually is. Some of us knew that long time ago. Standing for her since forever and to infity and beyond! U go gurl."
A viewer tweeted, "Ramy youssef bringing mia khalifa on his show... what a baddie," while another opined, "So @miakhalifa is selling her breast milk for Arab men to overcome porn addiction????? That was hilarious."
One viewer wrote, "@ramy watching #Ramy season 2 with my family and not bursting out laughing at “Anisa Khalifa” was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Props to @miakhalifa for the cameo," while another tweeted, "Mahershala Ali and Mia Khalifa casting choice truly doesn’t feel needless, Many conversations needs to be spoken about here. #Ramy."
However, some viewers objected to the stereotyping of Emiratis and Mia's appearance. One tweeted, " I thought at First that you will bring out a bit of what Arabs are trully are, like when you were saying in most of your interviews, but when Mia Khalifa is brought at 2nd season, I pray you do not succeed in your life."
Another wrote, "@ramy I didn't expect you to show stereotype vision of [Khaleeji] people , like only muslims people in this world who they are obsess to watch porn and especially @miakhalifa porn videos , come on man we are in 2020."
Mia, however, is grateful for the opportunity. She , "You have no idea what that opportunity meant to me, I’m so thankful to @ramy and his entire team for being so kind and giving me a voice on such an important show."
'Ramy' Season 2 is now streaming on Hulu.
