Alie Ward and Georgia Hardstark, two best friends for years, are taking their hilarious antics and love of craft cocktails on the road with a new show, Tripping Out With Alie & Georgia, which premieres TONIGHT on the Cooking Channel! The two prepped some amazing cocktail recipes for us, below. Check 'em out!
Tell me a bit about the show!
Alie: The show is called Tripping Out With Alie & Georgia, and we're Alie and Georgia! It is a travel, food, and entertaining show on the Cooking Channel, and it premieres June 21st. We are so freakin' excited about it. In it, the two of us, we are real-life best friends. The two of us take trips to two different cities and do crazy adventures like dog sledding, riding in tiny planes, learning how to tight-rope walk, and have swimming lessons. And then we eat great local food, try really good cocktails, and we come home and make a party for our friends based on our adventures—kind of introducing them to the flavors of the food that we had.
How long have you two been friends?
Georgia: We met in 2007. I was just moving back from San Francisco to L.A. after a relationship ended, and it's so hard to meet and make girlfriends when you're in the dust. So, I met Alie through a mutual friend, and I thought she was super cool, so I MySpace messaged her and was like, Do you wanna go hang out sometime?' I was super nervous about it because I thought she was really cool, and we had a disastrous first friend date. I'm really into beer and meat, so I took her to my favorite little German beer garden, and it turns out she was vegetarian at the time, and she hates beer and cannot drink a whole beer. We were sitting on the patio, and she was like a secret former ex Goth who wears SPF 100, so all those things just didn't work. We're still friends.
Alie: I thought Georgia was super cool. She wore these awesome vintage clothes and liked thrift store shopping too. She used to be a punker, so I thought she was awesome. I was absolutely sunburning in a second, not wanting to drink a beer, and trying to eat this sauerkraut off this sausage plate, and being like Oh hey, I'm such a cool girl,' but I was such a loser because I hated all those things. That was probably six or seven years ago. We used to joke about having a travel show. We had day jobs—I used to work at a newspaper and Georgia had a boring desk job. We used to joke on Gchat about how all we wanted is a travel show together, and we'd get to go eat and drink stuff. We had some success with a viral culinary video in 2009, and then that opened the door to Cooking Channel finding us on Facebook and asking us to make more videos for them. So, we dove into cocktail culture and learned everything we could. We traveled the world learning about cocktails. We had been working on this show, so it's been a pretty awesome little journey, as they say on The Bachelorette.
