Want a pop of color without commitment? Create this look using Assembly Salon favorite Kevin Murphy Color Bug hair chalk.

Step 1: Prep the strands you want to chalk with pomade. Then glide the Color Bug chalk over the hair.

Step 2. Apply hairspray to seal in the color. If you want the bright colors to turn to pastels, go over the strands again with white Color Bug chalk. Spray again to lock in the color.

Step 3: Draw a horizontal part at the top of your head to create one section of hair going toward your face and the rest down as usual.

Step 4: Start a Dutch braid behind one ear, using three strands from the bottom section. Braid away from one ear, adding more hair into the three sections as you go along, angling down and back up to the other ear. Once you've reached the other ear, angle the braid upward toward your face. Continue braiding, adding more strands from the top section of hair.

Step 5: Once the crown pattern is finished, braid leftover hair into a three-strand braid, secure with an elastic and bobby pins. Spritz with hairspray for a sleek look or with beach spray for an undone bohemian feel.
