Aaron Rodgers and his off-season trade dramas have become an annual occurrence now, and this year is no different. There are many speculations about the Green Bay Packers quarterback’s future and the famous NFL insider Ian Rapoport has exacerbated the rumors with his takes on the situation when he joined Pat McAfee and his crew on the Pat McAfee Show.
The Packers’ season ended with a shocking loss against Dan Campbell‘s Detroit Lions in week 18 of the NFL regular season. And just like last season, Aaron Rodgers’ trade rumors started to go viral on social media following the Packers’ loss. Furthermore, Rodgers aggravated the rumors by saying that he will need time to think about his future in the post-game press conference.
And later, he created a storm on social media by saying that he could win MVP again under the right circumstances, either with the Green Bay-based franchise or somewhere else. This statement caused him to receive a massive backlash from many people, including famous NFL analysts Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe. Moreover, even former playerRob Gronkowski called out the 39-year-old QB for thinking about individual awards instead of Super Bowls.
Amidst all this, NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who works for ESPN, has fueled the rapidly spreading trade rumors with his insights and inside information on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday.
The Packers like Jordan Love and looking for the right package for Aaron Rodgers
Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show with McAfee and his crew, Rapoport said that trade for Rodgers is financially possible but the Packers would expect a huge return for the back-to-back MVP.
“It’s not an impossibility. Because of the way his contract is structured… a trade is possible. You can do it financially, you can come up with the compensation. I think Green Bay likes what they have in Jordan Love. If they got the right package, I think they could do a deal,” said Ian Rapoport about the Aaron Rodgers situation.
The Packers signed Rodgers to a 3 year $150 million contract extension just last off-season. However, this season hasn’t worked out for both parties. The reigning MVP lost his no.1 target WR Davante Adams in free agency and has severely regressed in his form.
It’s a tricky situation for the team that wants to trade for Rodgers since the Packers will most likely expect at least a couple of 1st rounders and maybe even some players to trade their franchise quarterback. Furthermore, the team that trades for him will end up inheriting his massive contract and yet the Packers won’t struggle to find buyers for this kind of player if they really want to trade him.
