Adventure Time was an animated TV series that aired on Cartoon Network from 2010 to 2018. Considering the immense success of the show, it’s only obvious that fans were aching for more content from the franchise.
Well, the request was fulfilled when the spin-off Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake was released earlier in 2023. The spin-off series was immensely successful, but there were still a lot of doubts about the future of the show. So, is Adventure Time’s spin-off returning for a second season? Let’s find out.
Max Renews Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake For a Second Season
Previously, showrunner Adam Muto was concerned about the spin-off series’ return to Max. Muto revealed the person who greenlit the project at Max was no longer with the studio. Despite that, it was recently revealed in a press release by Warner Bros. Discovery that the series will return for another season.
Showrunner Adam Muto shared his honest thoughts on the news in the same press release mentioned earlier.
To know that the show will continue into a second season feels both wonderful and frankly surreal. Thanks to ADVENTURE TIME’s creator Pendleton Ward, the team at Max, the talented cast & crew, and the passionate audience who made this possible.
Muto’s happiness can clearly be seen in his statement. The inaugural season of the series featured a total of 11 episodes. Keeping that in mind, fans should expect a similar episode count in the sophomore season of the series.
As of now, Max has not announced a precise release date for the second season. Considering it took around two years for the opening season to arrive, the second season will most likely be released in the second half of 2024 or the first of 2025.
What Happened to Finn and Jake in Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake?
Finn the Human and Jake the Dog were the lead characters in the 2010 series Adventure Time. While the two characters’ journey reached a conclusion with the original series finale, the audience was curious about their whereabouts in the spin-off show.
Well, the first season of the series implied that Jake had died. On the other hand, Finn made an appearance, but he was depicted as a middle-aged man with a beard. Keeping that in mind, it only makes sense that Jake has passed away.
After all, the original season concluded when Finn turned 17 years old. Dogs do not live as long as humans. Unless there is a twist that the writers have planned for the second season of the series.
Well, either way, the audience will find out about this potential plot point when the new season is released on Max.
