INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be back open on Monday, with restrictions.

About a third of the BMV's branches statewide will be availabe by appointment only starting Monday. While the bureau encourages customers to complete transactions online or by mail if possible, the reopening of branches will allow Hoosiers to do business with the BMV that cannot be done online.

Appointments will be limited to these transactions, according to a BMV release:

  • Knowledge Testing
  • Commercial Driver License
  • New Driver License/Learner Permit or Identification Card (not including driving skill tests)
  • Amend a Current Driver License/Learner Permit or Identification Card
  • Replacement Driver License/Learner Permit or Identification Card
  • Title Transfer
  • Update to an Existing Title
  • New Registration
  • Disability Placard

Driving skill exams are not available at this time, the BMV said.

Transactions that can be done online, at a BMV kiosk or by phone or mail include renewing your driver license, learner permit or identification card, renewing your registration, getting a registration amendment and getting a duplicate registration or title. Those transactions are not available by appointment.
