TOCCOA, Ga. (WTHR) - A Georgia couple's "fashionable" twist on date night is inspiring couples across the nation.
Shane and Noel Pauley picked out each other's outfits with what they could buy for $10 at a local Goodwill store, then hit the town. With Shane dressed in a matching plaid/patchwork-type shirt and pants and Noel in a flowery dress straight out of the early 90s, the first "rule" was that neither partner was allowed to talk about why they were dressed that way.
"Once you leave Goodwill, it's like fight club, no one talks about it," Noel wrote on her blog.
The Pauleys went out for dinner at a Longhorn Steakhouse and, despite glares and snickers, they say no one mentioned their outfits.
The couple, who added fake names to their game, going by "Roger" and "Ethel" while out on their date, posted the adventure on Facebook Friday evening and the idea took off. By Monday night, nearly 400,000 people had shared their post, which encouraged others to do the same and tag it with #goodwilldatenight.
Their post even drew a reaction from their server that night.
Noel summed the evening up in her blog post:
Y’all I don’t think we have laughed this hard in a long time. Marriage is tough, parenting is tough, and honestly life is tough. But everything is better when you’re doing it with your best friend. So, have fun and make sure you hashtag all of your pictures with #goodwilldatenight so we can laugh at your pictures too!
