Let us be honest: The Rock’s baldness is undeniably impressive. We find it hard to imagine him in any other way because it seems like he was born to wear that bald look. However, this raises the question of why he went bald in the first place. Fans might be shocked to hear that Johnson actually chose to become bald rather than have a genetic predisposition.

A few years back, Johnson, 51, responded to his GIF with curly brown hair that had been shared on Twitter.

Worldwide acclaim for Dwayne Johnson’s endearing demeanor and toned body has earned him the title of PEOPLE’s 2016 sexiest man alive. His distinctive squeaky, clean bald head and massive 6′ 5″ frame have made him famous. But rather than having a genetic predisposition, fans might be surprised to learn that Dany Garcia‘s former husband actually decided to go bald.

The 51-year-old actor gave a hilarious explanation after a rare GIF of Johnson with curly brown hair was posted on Twitter by the showtime TV series A Season With. The GIF was from his college days. Additionally, in it, The Rock, who has curly hair, surveyed the football field with a smoldering gaze.

A significant portion of Johnson’s fan base believed, over time, that he was male-pattern bald. Johnson saw this GIF and made an extremely exhilarating comment about why he has less hair and is bald. He tweeted:

Why I luv GIFs. I'm not bald because I went bald. I'm bald because my hair is a cross between an afro and hair from a Lama's ball sac. #TheU

Thus, the actor chose to be hairless on his own volition. He conveyed the reality of being bald while making a humorous allusion to hair with the posting of this GIF. Johnson played football for the University of Miami before turning pro. As a member of the 1991 Miami Hurricanes football team, the team won a national championship.

That being said, we must accept our inner Rock and shine through to confidence, no matter what is going on at the top. Who needs hair, after all, when you have a million-dollar smile and contagious charisma that can move mountains?

On the work front, Johnson will next be seen as Callum Drift in Red One, Jake Kasdan’s upcoming action-adventure Christmas film.
