With an impressive effort by the company, its subcontractors, and suppliers, Drees Homes, the country's fifth largest privately held homebuilder, completed its goal of building five homes in five cities in five days as part of the Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz 2006.
Drees Homes worked with Habitat affiliates in Durham, NC; McKinney, TX; Indianapolis, IN; Frederick County, MD; and Greater Cincinnati, OH; to build five homes from June 5-9, 2006. It was one of the largest commitments by a private builder to the Blitz effort.
The Indianapolis home for the Stevens family was actually completed in less than two days. Building began on Monday, June 5, at 8:15am after the opening devotional, and wrapped up on June 7 at 2:47 a.m. - in 42 hours and 32 minutes!
All of the five homes were completed in less than 96 hours.
"Building five homes in less than four days is very impressive, but more importantly, you gave five families an opportunity to reach their dreams," said Drees' President and CEO David Drees. "That's what Drees has been about since my grandfather Theodore's days, and I'm honored that you carried out our tradition so well."
