Family of dead Gaston County teacher pays respects – WSOC TV

The family of a Gaston County teacher who died in a crash last August visited the scene Saturday.

Christina Whelan's family spent time decorating a tree near the scene of her fatal accident on I-85.

They set up a cross, butterflies and arranged flowers.

They live in Pennsylvania, but came down for an organ donation event where Whelan was remembered.

Investigators said a piece of metal fell off a truck, flew a six foot concrete wall and smashed through Whelan's front windshield.
