GLAMOUR: Given the film's title and Stephen's quest to find an equation to explain all things in the world, I thought it might be fun to get your "theories on everything," so to speak. Let's start with love at first sight—do you believe in it?

FJ: Absolutely. Yeah, I do believe in it.

GLAMOUR: How about being friends with an ex? Is it possible?

FJ: I think it depends on the people. But I think that's what people would always hope for after a breakup.

GLAMOUR: We see Jane trying to balance her academic career with being a mother and with caring for Stephen. Do you think women can have it all?

FJ: I think that is something women are still working out. It's an ongoing issue, how to balance all these different aspects and be someone who loves their job, loves their career, but at the same time wants to have a family. It's a very difficult balance, but I do hope it's possible. We all do, don't we?

GLAMOUR: Science versus emotion?

FJ: I'm too much left brain. I very much have an emotional response to things; I love literature and films and storytelling. I need to nourish my right side, it doesn't get a lot of exercise.

GLAMOUR: Your words to live by?

FJ: Always, my mother said, "Be yourself." That is sometimes the hardest thing to do. I try to always remember that and come back to that and have strength in who you are. There is only one you.

The Theory of Everything premieres November 7.
