Fishers home burned to ground

Fishers, February 16 - Investigators are on the scene of a fire that destroyed a rural Fishers home overnight.

The fire started after midnight in the 13,400 block of Prairie Baptist Road. By the time emergency crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Lewis Cougill was inside sleeping when the fire began. He woke up and tried to battle the flames but the heat and smoke was too much for him to fight. He ran next door and called 911.

Firefighters had their hands full because there were no fire hydrants in the area and water had to be trucked in, which made it difficult to keep up with the flames. Ultimately the house was destroyed.

By 10 a.m. firefighters were still on the scene putting out hot spots. The house burned to the ground.

The cause of the  fire remains under investigation.
