Gap wedge distance issue | Golf Monthly

So I was doing some simple wedge shots at the range today. Just hitting comfortable length swings at various targets and what I noticed (there was no launch monitor involved) was that there didn't seem any difference in the distance between my 56 degree wedge and my 52.

This winter I have been making an effort to hit more wedge shots into targets whilst at the range as short game practice and I have been reading up on wedge setup/swing etc. But today was when I really saw that there seemed to be no distance difference between the two. There now seems to be a sizeable gap between my PW distance and my 56 (SW) distance.

What could be the reasons behind this?
