God of War Ragnarok features a slew of armor options that players unlock throughout the game, and it can become quite a daunting task to choose the right one to assist you throughout your eventful journey.

While God of War Ragnarok borrows several elements from its predecessor, some excellent new mechanics also add a new dimension to the game. One of the most notable ones is the ability to transmog armor, which makes searching for good armor sets even more important. With this feature, players who prefer aesthetics over raw stats would get an option to experience the best of both worlds.
10 Fallen Stars Set
For players who prioritize the looks of their armor and rely heavily on special attacks, the Fallen Stars set is a no-brainer. The gold-plated armor with a touch of silver makes it one of the best-looking armor in the game. The armor features a number of perks for runic attacks and relics, which makes it ideal for players who want to switch things up instead of just going for melee combat.
To get the Fallen Stars Set, you must first complete the side quest Scent of Survival and then head to the Wishing Well in Vanaheim. Here, you will get the Purified Crystalline which can be used to craft the armor set.
9 Dragon Scaled Armor Set
As the name implies, the Dragon Scaled armor has a palette resembling a dragon, and the popping colors make it stand out. The armor is perfect for players who like to play more like a Souls game, blocking and parrying instead of going out all on the attack.
It provides buffs to Kratos' blocks and parries and could be an excellent armor for the late game as well as higher difficulties. The catch? It is really difficult to get the armor. You need to kill a dragon to get the items for the armor, and even then you can't unlock it until later in the game.
8 Undying Pyres Set
The Undying Pyres set can be obtained by completing the Muspelheim trials, and it is a well-rounded armor that players can get quite early in the game. This armor focuses on the various skills in God of War: Ragnarok, which includes Permafrost, Immolation, and Maelstrom. There are a wide array of perks that help players accumulate skills faster, ranging from skill immunity on the first hit to a faster gain rate.
While the perks sound really cool, players need to use them smartly by capitalizing on the weaknesses and strengths of their enemies. Thus, this armor is not quite useful early on in the game when players are still getting accustomed to the enemies.
7 Berserker Set
The Berserker Set is regarded by some as the best set in the game, but the fact that players can't get it until quite late in the game is what doesn't works in its favor. The armor boosts favor relic usage by giving melee damage buffs and boosting cooldowns. At this time, this armor might not be that useful, but once the developers add New Game+, the Berserker Set could become one of the most used armor in the game.
To get the Berserker set, players need to defeat all Berserkers, which is one of the toughest battles in the game. If you have fought the Valkyries in the previous game, you might have a fair idea of what we are talking about as Berserkers are equivalent to them in God of War: Ragnarok.
6 Guiding Light Set
One of the most aesthetically pleasing armors in the game, the Guiding Light Set resembles the environment around the Lake of Nine. This armor buffs the player's luck and defense, and can be obtained midway through the main story of the game. While the armor significantly boosts your chances of landing critical hits, it doesn't really shine a lot in the other departments.

The armor can be obtained after unlocking the Lake of Nine, which doesn't actually open up until the ninth mission, World of Fate.
5 Fate Breaker Set
For players who are a fan of Kratos' Spartan rage, the Fate Breaker set can be a really viable choice. Not only does it boost the gain rate of Spartan rage, but it also provides a buff after Kratos returns to his normal state.
As one would expect, such a powerful armor can only be unlocked quite late in the game, and you could in fact comfortably take down the final bosses of the game with this armor. Players will get the option to craft this armor before going to war and considering that happens pretty much towards the end of the game one might not be able to enjoy it for a long time.
4 Survival Set
Not often will you see the starting gear in a game being one of the best. While the Survival set might lack the bells and whistles of the other fancier armor in the game, it is an excellent well-rounded armor. In fact, if you want to stay loyal to it and upgrade it to the max level, you could in fact finish the entire game with it without much trouble.
Surely, you might not get the cool runic perks or rage buffs, but there is a different satisfaction in beating the game with starting armor. At least, Soulsborne players would agree.
3 Nidavellir's Finest Set
If you are looking for really good armor early in the game, then the Nidavellier's Finest set could be the best choice. Giving massive health boosts for stun-grabbing enemies while increasing the stun rate at the same time, this armor can help you sail through a lot of enemies in the early game with ease.
Later on in the game, it might not prove to be that useful with much better options available. This armor can be obtained by completing the In-Service of Asgard favor which can be unlocked after reaching Nidavellir.
2 Lunda's Lost Set
Lunda's Lost set focuses on the poison status effect on enemies, and it is actually considered broken by many players. The poison status effect not only reduces the damage dealt by enemies but also buffs the damage incurred by them.
The fact that players are expecting it to be patched in one of the future updates speaks volumes about the strength of this armor. This armor can be obtained midway through the main story, after completing the "A Mysterious Orb" favor.
1 Steinbjorn's Set
The Steinbjorn set is a defensive beast. One can judge from the looks of the armor itself that it can tank hits with ease, and while it might not look the best, it could be really handy for players who are having a tough time avoiding attacks.
The massive defense buff coupled with the health restoration makes it a really good armor for higher difficulties as well as taking down some of the more difficult side bosses such as Berserkers. Players need to get the Mystical Heirloom and defeat four Trolls to get the armor, so it can be a bit tricky to get your hands on this coveted set.
