Hey there. I’m KinectKid. Welcome to my walkthrough for Luxor 2. This game is very repetitive and also very skill-based, so this walkthrough will be more like an encyclopedia of knowledge and strategies about the game plus a roadmap to unlocking all the achievements, rather than a step-by-step walkthrough. Be sure to read the glossary in order to have the best understanding of all the terms used in this walkthrough. Enjoy.

Gameplay:

Luxor 2 is a sphere-matching puzzle game featuring Ancient Egyptian themed levels and artwork. It is the third game in the Luxor franchise, but it’s the only Luxor game to be released on an Xbox platform. Various colored orbs will travel in a line along a fixed path. If the line of orbs reaches the pyramid at the end of the path, you lose a life. Your job is to use your winged scarab to insert additional orbs into the moving line of orbs to clear them. Create a colored match of three or more adjacent orbs to explode that sequence of orbs and shorten the line.

In each level, there is also a threshold for a certain number of orbs you must clear. This is not a points threshold. It is based on the number of orbs you have cleared in that level so far. Reach this threshold to stop new lines of orbs from spawning. If you clear your current line of orbs but have not yet reached the orb threshold, a new line of orbs will spawn. Additionally, if you take too long to clear your current line of orbs, the game will spawn a new line of orbs anyway, and you’ll have to deal with multiple lines of orbs at the same time.

To complete a level, first clear the orb threshold to prevent new orbs from spawning, then clear the remaining orbs on screen.

The game consists of 88 levels among 14 stages. There are also 13 bonus levels, one at the end of every stage except for the last stage. If you lose a life, you will restart your current level with the orb threshold reset to zero. If you run out of all your lives, you’ll have the opportunity to restart at the beginning of your current stage with three lives and zero score. That means if you run out of lives, you won’t have to start the entire game over, but you might lose a little bit of progress.

Controls:

The controls in this game are very simple. Use the left stick, right stick, or D-pad to move your winged scarab left and right at the bottom of the screen. I think most people will find the left stick to be most natural, but it’s your choice. You can also use the triggers to move your winged scarab left or right very quickly, but this control is only useful if you're trying to catch gems and coins that are falling at the same time on opposite sides of the screen, which isn't really required for any achievements. Press cn_A to shoot. Press cn_B to swap your current orb with your “up next” orb.

Achievements:

Luxor 2 has 12 achievements. Six are fairly trivial, and you should be able to earn them within a couple hours. The last six will require patience, practice, and dedication.

To earn all 12 achievements, you’ll need to complete the game three times: once on Easy, once on Normal, and once on Expert. The achievements do not stack, so three playthroughs are required. Each playthrough of the campaign will take you around 8-12 hours to complete. On one of those playthroughs, you’ll need to be sure to clear every ball in every bonus level.

Additionally, you’ll need to complete the “Extreme” difficulty mode (“Challenge of Horus”) that is unlocked after beating the main game on Expert. This mode is much shorter than the main game, but it is also much more difficult. The Extreme difficulty playthrough will take around 6-12 hours, depending on your skill.

Once you’ve done all that, you’ll probably have accumulated around 75 million points, but you’ll need to continue grinding until you amass 280 million points for the “Pharaoh of the Two Lands” achievement. These points can be grinded legitimately, grinded with a turbo controller, or duplicated with a gamesave trick, mentioned later in the guide.
