Can’t choose between a sweet or salty something this National Popcorn Day? Maybe a quick look at a few of Indiana’s most delicious popcorn places will help.
Just Pop In! - Indianapolis
Twins Mandy Selke and Carly Swift spent childhood evenings watching their grandfather roast kernels over the stove, and by 2003 had put their own hip spin on what they learned. Now, their popcorn can be found throughout the Indy area, with classic lines like the Chocolate Collection or the more daring Spice of Life collection. But if you’re looking to crunch into a kernel with a more Indy flare, their Local Flavor line features flavors like the Hoosier Momma Bloody Mary or Zest! Spicy Ginger Curry.
Cornival Popcorn Shop! – Indianapolis
This Specialty Gourmet Popcorn Business offers over 100 flavors – from butter pecan to spicy nacho and Cornival caramel to Volcanic Cajun cheddar. It’s a family owned operation out of eastern Indianapolis, and its flavors are “complementary to what would be offered in a festival or Carnival environment.” Those festival flavors are also sold online, and offered on the eastern side of Indianapolis. Bring out the ringmaster.
Inga’s Popcorn - Bloomington, Zionsville
For nearly five years, Inga has been whipping up her popcorn in multiple locations across the state. She starts with some Hoosier grown popcorn, then decides if she wants to sprinkle it with her own recipe or a recipe passed down from her grandmother. Homegrown goodness at its finest. Don’t worry if you can’t make the drive to one of her shops in Bloomington or Zionsville; you can head over to Twisted Sister or Tru-Finds Treasures in Indianapolis or Gretel’s in West Lafayette.
Not Just Popcorn - Edinburgh
What started off with eight original recipes and a tiny dream soon led to a sprawling homegrown business that offers over 240 original flavors. Carol Buck’s from-scratch creations have been around since 1989, and you can get it seven days a week. Want to learn more about how the popcorn gets from stalk to bag? See for yourself where Buck whips up these concoctions. A tour of the Not Just Popcorn factory costs $2, but children under 3 years get in free.
Yoder Popcorn - Topeka
In 1936, Rufus Yoder began growing popcorn on his family farm and shared the excess crop with the community. His family still farms the 1,700….but they look over the Popcorn Shoppe as well. It’s almost three hours outside Indy, but just might be worth the trip. They offer a variety of salts, oils, seasonings, and even microwaveable bags if you’re busy.
