One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda was moved to tears after watching the animated version of the Wano arc. Produced by Toei Animation, Wano is the longest arc in the series and is also considered to be the best due to its animation and sound effects.
Wano Country Arc officially begins in Episode 892 titled ‘The Land of Wano! To the Samurai Country where Cherry Blossoms Flutter.’ Kaido and Big Mom act as the main antagonists while the story explores the history of Kozuki Oden and Gol D. Roger. The arc ended in Episode 1076 following a grand build-up that included the revelation of Luffy being the next Joy Boy.
Eiichiro Oda Praised The Animation For One Piece Wano Saga
The black-and-white pages of a manga aren’t aesthetically pleasing. While the colored versions are released based on the mangaka’s choice, the animation responsibility falls on the studio. There can be times when anime fails to live up to the mangas hype as in the case of The Seven Deadly Sins and Overlord.
Toei Animation, who has been putting effort into One Piece since 1999, didn’t let Oda down. High-quality animated fight scenes during the Wano saga broke the internet. As the anime series nears its end, some sequences were even extended for fans to relish the action, and the decision was well-received by the community.
Eiichiro Oda revealed that he cried every time to sleep after watching the One Piece Wano saga during a ‘Mangaka Musings’ blog from VIZ Media.
“Lately, I cry every time I watch the One Piece anime. The Wano arc is soooo good! Thank you for the wonderful performances!”
One Piece manga is currently in Part 1 of the ‘Final Saga’, namely the Eggehead Island arc. Speculations suggest that there will be four parts in the finale of the series.
Luffy vs. Kaido and other highlights of the Wano arc
Former King of Pirates Gol D. Roger is considered to be the strongest individual of the Old Pirate Era. Only glimpses of his powers were revealed throughout the series but Wano arc revealed its full extent. Episode 966 featured Roger vs. Whitebeard at their prime and their right-hand men also going at each other with Armament Haki and Observation Haki techniques.
The team of Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro against Basil Hawkins in Episode 898 was another fan-favorite battle. The Worst Generation tarot card user gave Luffy and Zoro a run for their money and they had to retreat with the help of Komachiyo. Hawkins is eventually taken down by Killer in Episode 1054 when the latter’s mind games get the better of him.
Monkey D. Luffy vs. Kaido in Episode 1076 of One Piece gave the Wano arc a fitting end. The Straw Hat was pushed to his limit against the celestial dragon and seemingly died until his ‘Gum Gum’ Devil Fruit powers Awakened and he transformed into Gear 5. Luffy then manhandled the dragon with his power ‘Toon Force’, which invoked outlandish cartoon physics while also making him resemble the Sun God.
