Irish golfer Rory McIlroy just won the RBC Canadian Open this week, officially bagging his 21st PGA Tour title. He took a subtle swipe at the LIV Golf Invitational Series and chairman, Australian golfer Greg Norman, and golfer turned sports influencer Paige Spiranac is loving every minute of it. His win at Toronto took him one step ahead of Norman, who ended his career with 20 PGA Tour titles. McIlroy said, “Twenty-first PGA Tour win, one more than someone else”.
“That gave me a little extra incentive today. Really happy to get that done.” During the press conference after the Canadian Open, McIlroy said, “Look, I alluded to it. I had the extra motivation for what was going on across the pond. That guy that’s spearheading that Tour has 20 wins on the PGA Tour and I was tied with him and I wanted to get one ahead of him”.

“LIV-ing for this drama”
McIlroy finished by saying, “So that was really cool for me, just a little sense of pride on that one”. After McIlroy’s win on Sunday, Spiranac tweeted: “Rory being shady towards Greg Norman saying he has one more win than him. LIV-ing for this drama. I’ll be here all week”.
McIlroy, along with several other golfers such as Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus has been vocal about his support and loyalty to the PGA Tour, while several of his rivals have defected to the LIV Golf Invitational. The feud has turned into a sort of civil war that is threatening to rip the sport apart, with players such as Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed set to join the LIV Golf Invitational for the second event in Oregon later this week.

Justin Thomas is another golfer who took a shot at the Invitational after he finished third behind McIlroy and Tony Finau at Toronto. He tweeted, ‘What a week. That’s why we play, and that’s why we play on the PGA Tour. Got to battle against one of the best today and got out duelled, but not without a fight. Congrats to Rory McIlroy on his 21st win and an amazing finish, can’t wait for the US Open’.
