Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has all led up to this final battle between our Spider-Men and Venom. Venom has been taking over New York City and in this final mission called “Together”, we see Peter, Miles, and MJ all play a part in getting us to the final showdown at Midtown High.
After playing as MJ to retrieve the meteorite, it’s time to face everyone’s favorite symbiote titan. If you’re having trouble defeating Venom, here is a comprehensive guide on how to beat Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
When Do You Face Venom In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Venom has been teased for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ever since the Reveal Trailer. The fan favorite villain has been using the symbiote to slowly take over New York in their efforts to “heal the world”. Peter nearly lost himself to the symbiote again after a horde attack. In a joint effort between Miles Morales and Mr. Negative, they were able to save Peter from the darkness.
In return, Martin Li lost his powers and granted Peter the Anti-Venom suit, allowing the player to use the symbiote powers once again. After failing to stop Venom from stealing the meteorite, Dr. Connors tells Peter the only possible way to save New York is to kill the host, Harry.
Battling with this situation, our Spider-Men and MJ devise a plan to bait Venom away from the symbiote base and have MJ and Miles haul the meteorite to the Emily-May Foundation to destroy it. This way Peter and Miles don’t have to kill Harry in the suit.
Locations of Marko’s Memories in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2Before you play the Venom boss fight, you must complete one last MJ sequence. Try to sneak around the symbiote base with your newly equipped Sonic Shots. Keep your distance and hide behind cover when projectiles are thrown at you.
When the final obstacle of this sequence shows up, the Symbiote Behemoth, don’t get too close and shoot the Sonic barrels nearby. Dodge with the circle button when he lunges at you and he’ll be down in no time.
Now, it’s time for the final showdown between childhood best friends as Peter and Harry battle it out as their alter egos, Spider-Man versus Venom.
How To Beat Venom In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Before we get into the fight, I encourage you to unlock a Shared Skill in the upgrade tree. It’s called “Combo Resupply” where after finishing a four-hit melee combo, you get a chance of getting a free gadget shot. This skill is important because you can use the Sonic Burst for free on Venom after a four-hit melee combo.
The Sonic Burst will temporarily stun and damage Venom in this long drawn-out fight. Press R1 + the circle button to use it. Don’t use your other gadgets against Venom because you’ll need them for later and they aren’t that effective. When the fight starts, you will see an Oscorp sound disruptor behind Venom. Pull it as soon as you’re in range because you won’t be on this platform for long.
Block his attacks with the L1 button or parry them by tapping the button right before the hit lands. If the parry is successful, Venom will be open to allow you to deal damage. Use your L1 + square, triangle, circle, or x buttons to perform one of Peter’s Anti-Venom attacks to deal even more damage.
Locations of All Unidentified Targets in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2Any of his attacks that make red circles appear over Peter/Venom can be parried. His close-range attacks are easier to parry but if he throws the long-range attacks where he extends his right arm to slam it on you, they can be parried but it’s more difficult.
Don’t bother shooting webs at Venom as he will not be affected by them. After taking some damage, Venom will move to the center of the platform to spawn biting tendrils from the ground. Don’t stick around to find out what he’s going to be next. Instead, swing to another platform.
Venom will also throw crush attacks or blue attacks. These cannot be blocked or parried and need to be dodged. Be mindful of what Venom is doing because all of his attacks deal a ton of damage.
When you accumulate enough focus, you can use it to heal by pressing down on the d-pad or save two bars for a finisher by pressing the triangle and circle when it appears above Venom’s head. If you web-strike Venom, he may block it with a symbiote shield.
In this beginning phase alone, Venom does not stick to a single pattern. While he may throw three red attacks in a row at first, he will switch to a crush attack as the third attack when his health bar is low. Don’t fall into bad habits and be ready to change things up as Venom’s health depletes. We’re 25% done in learning how to beat Venom.
At the start of the second phase, Venom brings in backup. Symbiotes start to attack you on top of Venom running around the stage. In addition, there’s a white bar on top of Venom’s health bar that needs to be drained first with Peter’s Anti-Venom attacks.
This phase can get pretty chaotic as there’s a ton of enemies on screen alongside Venom. Don’t perform finishers on the Symbiotes because this will waste a focus bar that can be used to restore health.
To take out the Symbiotes, parrying their attacks while also parrying Venom’s attacks too. Attack the Symbiotes whenever you can to build up Anti-Venom abilities. When an Anti-Venom attack is ready, use it instantly on Venom to eat away at the white health bar.
If the enemies are becoming too overwhelming, look for environmental objects like a car or the horn of a scoreboard to whip them out instantly. Also, you can use your other gadgets to make the Symbiote horde easier to manage.
When the bar is gone, punch Venom to activate a small sequence of Peter using his Anti-Venom suit to decrease Venom’s health bar. You can continue to whale on Venom but make sure to dodge, block, or parry his attacks accordingly.
The white health bar will come back and repeat the same steps to remove it. Attack the Symbiotes until one of the Anti-Venom abilities is ready to use on Venom. By the second time the white health bar appears, you should have built up enough of your Symbiote Surge meter to activate it.
Use it instantly as this is the last time you’ll play as Peter during this boss fight. We’re now halfway there in learning how to beat Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Locations of All FNSM Requests in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2When Venom realizes the meteorite has been removed from the symbiote base, he grows wings and flies over to the Emily-May Foundation. Making his grand entrance, Venom throws Peter across the room, leaving Miles the last Spider-Man standing between Venom and world domination.
First, make sure to have Miles’ new Lightning Powers equipped as they will deal more damage than his Venom Powers. Use them by pressing L1 + square, triangle, circle, or x buttons to activate them. The Lightning Powers will be especially useful during the final phase.
The third phase begins with Venom throwing projectiles towards Miles. On the third throw, it’s a big glowing symbiote ball. Press L1 + R1 to toss it back to stun Venom for a moment. Press triangle to web-strike towards him and start punching away.
Because you can’t parry attacks in the air, dodge Venom’s incoming attacks. Use your Lightning Powers in between punches. If the bonus Gadget Shot ever kicks in, press R1 + circle to release a Sonic Burst, stunning Venom again. Remember, don’t bother shooting webs at Venom because they don’t affect him.
After losing about one-third of his health, Venom loses the wings and it’s back to fighting on the ground. He has two red attacks he’ll throw out. The first one is a five hit attack combo with the fifth blow being the easiest to parry. Parry it and start hitting Venom with your punches, gadgets, and Lightning Powers. The other red attack is a slam move. Block or parry it to avoid damage. Attack Venom again after the slam is complete.
Venom regains his wings one more time during this third phase. Continue to toss the projectiles back at him and web-strike to get close. Dodge his attacks and the projectiles when he starts throwing them again.
After the third phase is complete, we move onto the fourth phase of the fight. How to beat Venom comes down to this final phase. After getting his hands on the meteorite, Venom spawns more tendrils around the building. While the surrounding area looks more dire, there are more tools to help you defeat Venom.
Locations of All Photo Ops in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2First, worry about parrying his incoming attacks. Be wary of Venom’s crush attacks as he re-introduces them during this final phase. Dodge them when Venom has blue circles around his head.
After losing about one-third of his health again, he’ll dash away to unleash a wave to biting symbiote tendrils. Try to zip away to higher ground by pressing L2 + R2 to a nearby point. Otherwise, take damage and be knocked to the ground.
There are sound barrels around you that can be tossed at Venom to cause a loud disruption. When you have a moment to punch Venom, press L1 + R1 to throw the barrel in between your combo to continue outputting damage. The barrels also sit on tendrils that can be web zipped to, dodging the biting tendrils.
If any of your Lightning Powers come up, use them against Venom to deal lots of damage. Also, press the analog sticks (L3 + R3) to unleash the Mega Venom Blast when the meter is filled. Use all the barrels to bring Venom’s health down to below half. Throwing the barrels after that point becomes tricky but still possible. When he is that low, the wings come out once more.
Watch out for the incoming projectiles and dodge them when the red marker appears above Miles. Be prepared to attack after he’s done because Venom does not throw the big glowing symbiote ball like before. Web-strike when you see an opportunity but Venom can still attack. Dodge when you see the red or blue indicator appear.
Continue to use your Lightning Powers and gadgets whenever you see an opening. What makes this final boss against Venom difficult is his sheer power. Even though Miles or Peter can damage Venom, his attacks can easily take you out in two to three hits.
Be patient with your windows to attack to beat Venom. After the fight is over, look for prompts to mash the square button as both Peter and Miles chase Venom to retrieve the meteorite. Watch the ending as the “Together” story mission is completed and the final boss of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is defeated.
Using Accessibility Options For Venom In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Venom is a powerhouse of a final boss. While his attacks aren’t necessarily the fastest, they do pack a punch. If you’re having trouble dodging or parrying his attacks, consider activating the Game Speed accessibility option.
When activated, Game Speed will slow down the action giving you an easier time to parry or dodge Venom’s attacks. Enhanced auto-aim will snap you towards the environmental sound disruptors or the web zip points of interest. This will make it easier to stun Venom or avoid taking damage.
Other accessibility options such as QTE autocomplete are not that useful here since most of the combat is hand-to-hand. Lowering the difficulty will also make Venom an easier opponent if his output damage is too high.
And that’s how to beat Venom. That’s the final boss to take down in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. There’s a few side mission bosses to fight if you haven’t played them already.
