Best Black Swan Decks

Marvel Snap's Black Swan card surrounded by Sunspot, Ka-Zar, Thanos, and Hit-Monkey.

Black Swan's Ability states "On Reveal: Until the end of next turn, your 1-Cost cards cost 0." This means that players can swarm the board with 1-Cost cards pretty early in the game. This has pretty huge potential with 1-Cost Zoo decks or Thanos decks. It makes sense that Black Swan would pair well with Thanos since the theme of this month's season pass is Black Order, Thanos' faithful team of powerful villains.

The decks outlined below will cover Black Swan's usefulness in a Zoo deck, a Thanos deck, and a Hit-Monkey deck. All three deck archetypes are improved by adding Black Swan to the mix.

On Reveal: Until the end of next turn, your 1-Cost cards cost 0.

Black Swan Zoo Deck

Marvel Snap deck comprised of Black Swan, Ant-Man, Echo, Iceman, Nebula, Spider-Ham, Sunspot, Titania, Caiera, Ka-Zar, Blue Marvel, and Onslaught.

The Black Swan card was changed from a 2-Cost, 3-Power card to a 3-Cost, 5-Power card. The image above has the incorrect Cost and Power values, but the Deck Contents section below is correct. This change will be reflected in all future Marvel Snap guides.

This deck focuses on playing 1-Cost cards and boosting their Power with cards like Ka-Zar, Blue Marvel, and Onslaught. Caiera is an essential card here as she stops 1-Cost cards from being destroyed. The rest of the cards in the deck are 1-Cost and can be saved until Black Swan's Ability makes them playable for 0-Cost. This deck has the simplest play strategy as the goal is just to fill the board with 1-Cost cards with high-Power. It is surprisingly effective and can carry lanes. The 1-Cost cards like Echo, Spider-Ham, and Iceman can also be very disruptive to the opponent's strategy.

Deck Contents:

  • Black Swan (3-Cost, 5-Power)
  • Ant-Man (1-Cost, 1-Power)
  • Echo (1-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Iceman (1-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Nebula (1-Cost, 1-Power)
  • Spider-Ham (1-Cost, 1-Power)
  • Sunspot (1-Cost, 0-Power)
  • Titania (1-Cost, 5-Power)
  • Caiera (3-Cost, 4-Power)
  • Ka-Zar (4-Cost, 4-Power)
  • Blue Marvel (5-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Onslaught (6-Cost, 7-Power)

Black Swan Thanos Deck

Marvel Snap comprised of Black Swan, Grandmaster, Jeff!, Killmonger, Lockjaw, Shang-Chi, Vision, Blob, Magneto, Skaar, Thanos, and Death.

The Black Swan card was changed from a 2-Cost, 3-Power card to a 3-Cost, 5-Power card. The image above has the incorrect Cost and Power values, but the Deck Contents section below is correct. This change will be reflected in all future Marvel Snap guides.

This deck is reminiscent of the Lockjaw Thanos deck that dominated the meta in the early days of Marvel Snap. This deck lets players rely on Lockjaw to pull out heavy hitters like Blob, Magneto, and Death while running through the Infinity Stones. There are many different win conditions with this deck, but they all rely on getting high-Power cards out on the field as early as possible. Players can use cards like Killmonger to thin out Lockjaw's lane if it's filled with Infinity Stones.

If cards like Jeff or Vision are drawn, they can be moved out of the way of higher-Power cards. Black Swan can let players empty their hand of the Infinity Stones at any point if there are too many crowding your precious hand space and Grandmaster can cause On Reveal Abilities to happen twice, which can be extremely handy with Infinity Stones like Time Stone or Mind Stone.

Deck Contents:

  • Black Swan (3-Cost, 5-Power)
  • Grandmaster (2-Cost, 0-Power)
  • Jeff! (2-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Killmonger (3-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Lockjaw (3-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Shang-Chi (4-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Vision (5-Cost, 8-Power)
  • Blob (6-Cost, 0-Power)
  • Magneto (6-Cost, 12-Power)
  • Skaar (6-Cost, 11-Power)
  • Thanos (6-Cost, 10-Power)
  • Death (8-Cost, 12-Power)

Black Swan Hit-Monkey Deck

Marvel Snap deck comprised of Black Swan, Ant-Man, Iceman, Kitty Pryde, Nebula, Nightcrawler, Elsa Bloodstone, Jeff!, Mysterio, Bishop, Hit-Monkey, and Shang-Chi.

The Black Swan card was changed from a 2-Cost, 3-Power card to a 3-Cost, 5-Power card. The image above has the incorrect Cost and Power values, but the Deck Contents section below is correct. This change will be reflected in all future Marvel Snap guides.

This deck focuses on boosting the power of Bishop and Hit-Monkey. Elsa Bloodstone is present to give the lane-finishing cards a bigger boost to their Power. This specific deck just focuses on growing the Power of Hit-Monkey and Bishop to carry lanes. Players should ideally play Black Swan after Bishop has been played so he can soak up the points from the 1-Cost barrage that she unleashes. Hit-Monkey should be played in tandem with the 1-Cost cards and alongside other cards like Mysterio to really fill the board and gain lots of Power.

If players wanted to, Falcon or Beast would be great cards to slot in to move the deck more toward the Bounce archetype. This wouldn't change the strategy much and would allow them to pick up the 1-Cost cards played to then replay them on future turns.

Deck Contents:

  • Black Swan (3-Cost, 5-Power)
  • Ant-Man (1-Cost, 1-Power)
  • Iceman (1-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Kitty Pryde (1-Cost, 1-Power)
  • Nebula (1-Cost, 1-Power)
  • Nightcrawler (1-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Elsa Bloodstone (2-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Jeff! (2-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Mysterio (2-Cost, 4-Power)
  • Bishop (3-Cost, 1-Power)
  • Hit-Monkey (3-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Shang-Chi (4-Cost, 3-Power)

Best Black Swan Counters

Marvel Snap's Black Swan card surrounded by Cosmo and Killmonger variants.

The most glaring counter that players will have to look out for, as with every new On Reveal card, is Cosmo. Cosmo will prevent an On Reveal card's Ability from happening. This can be a real pain, but unless the opponent has turn priority, players can usually avoid the space dog's choreographed placement. Since players will be operating with lots of 1-Cost cards in a Black Swan deck, they should always keep an eye out for Killmonger. While some Black Swan decks also utilize Killmonger to thin out the field (namely Thanos decks), he poses a real problem to Zoo decks or other decks that rely on 1-Cost cards to win.

Best Black Swan Synergies

Marvel Snap's Black Swan card surrounded by Hit-Monkey, Ka-Zar, Caiera, and Bishop.

Black Swan's most obvious synergies lie with 1-Cost cards, so we won't be covering each and every one of those. Instead, we'll highlight the 1-Cost adjacent cards that are great when paired with Black Swan. Ka-Zar will boost the Power of every 1-Cost card by +1. This can be more impactful than it seems when there are many 1-Cost cards on the board. It can be boosted even further with the help of cards like Mystique or Onslaught. Caiera can also be a great pairing as she prevents 1-Cost cards from being destroyed (Killmonger is a huge threat with Black Swan, so it's great to have Caiera on the backburner).

Since 1-Cost cards will be 0-Cost cards after Black Swan is played, players will likely have the opportunity to play many of them at once. For this reason, cards that increase their Power based on the number of cards played are great pairings. Bishop and Hit-Monkey are prime candidates here.

Is Black Swan Worth It?

Marvel Snap's Black Swan card surrounded by question marks.

Black Swan is the season pass card for February's Black Order season. This means that she won't initially be obtainable in the Spotlight Cache or Token Shop like most other new cards. Instead, she can only be unlocked by purchasing this month's season pass for $9.99 USD (or local equivalent). This month's season pass also offers variants to cards like Death and Ebony Maw and gives players a few Mystery Variants throughout the various tiers.

While we never recommend spending hard-earned money on the game, Black Swan stands to be a useful card in the game's meta, especially when combined with some other Black Order cards that will be coming later this month. Players will have to choose for themselves whether the card is worth the price. Black Swan will likely come to a Spotlight Cache in the future, like all other season pass cards, so players could wait until then to avoid spending real-world currency on the game.
