University of Alabama Million Dollar Band member Maya Martin died. The University of Alabama Million Dollar Band announced her death today. She was smart and hardworking. The Alabama Band was started as a military band in 1912, and Dr. Gustav Wittig, who taught engineering and physics at a university, was in charge of it. The band's name was changed to the Million Dollar Band in 1913.
After five years, he left the band to the students until 1927, when Captain H. H. Turner took over. Alabama lost 33-7 to Georgia Tech in the 1922 football season, which is the official story of how the band got its name.

The Alabama Band was founded as a military band in 1912 and given the name simply "Alabama Band." During the first year of the band's existence, there were only 14 members, and Dr. Gustav Wittig, who was also a professor of engineering and physics at the university, served as its director. In 1912, the Alabama Band evolved into the Million Dollar Band.
After he had served as director of the band for a period of five years, he stepped down from that position. After that, the students of the school were in charge of directing the band until 1927, when Captain H. H. Turner was appointed to the position of director. The story of how the band got its name is one that has been the subject of debate, but the version that has been officially accepted by the university (and which was published in the 1948 football media guide) goes as follows: During the 1922 football season, Alabama travelled to Georgia Tech and was defeated by a score of 33-7. The band was named after the game.
