The 20-year-old singer-songwriter is from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Her dad is a former music teacher (no surprise there), but now both her parents work as jewelers.

Her first love was...football? Yep. Trainor played football for her local Boys & Girls Club team for three years and was the only girl on the team. (Virtual high-five, Meghan!)

But she knew she was musically talented from a young age—and owned it. "When I was 11, I came home from school and told my dad that I had an awesome voice and needed to record it," she told Nantucket Today.

__At 18, she signed as a songwriter with Big Yellow Dog Music and moved to Nashville.__While she was there, she wrote tracks for country stars like Rascal Flatts ("DJ Tonight").

But her big break came when she met producer Kevin Kadish (the guy behind "There's Gotta Be More to Life"—remember that?). Together they wrote "All About That Bass," which was originally intended to be performed by another artist. But when LA Reid heard Meghan's demo of the song, he signed her to Epic Records right away.

__She watches Beyonce videos for inspiration every day. __"That's the one performer I study a lot," she told Radio.com. Girl after our own heart.

But she still gets nervous dancing in front of people. It takes time to reach Taylor Swift's I-don't-care-how-ridiculous-I-look dancing confidence levels. It takes time.

__In the meantime, "All About That Bass" has become a body-image anthem for girls—and guys—everywhere. __"Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top," she sings. Amen!

She plays a mean triangle. As evidenced by her remix done last night with Jimmy Fallon and the Roots—with classroom instruments—seen here.__
