Today in fashion news from around the world wide web: Mindy Kaling celebrated her book launch at Tory Burch in New York City last night and talks about being a celebrity and getting free stuff (or not); Michelle Obama wore a striped dress from ASOS on Halloween; Canadian supermarket fast fashion retailer Joe Fresh opens its first standalone New York City store; and more!
NEW YORK— Last night, The Office star Mindy Kaling celebrated her book launch at the Tory Burch boutique in New York—and she talked to Fashionista about the cult of celebrity and getting free stuff (or not, as the case may be): "Listen, I never buy anything on final sale. The idea of buying anything online on final sale is crazy to me. I don't understand that at all. I always have to be able to return everything. I have friends who are like Nobody shops anymore, you get things for free!' and I'm like Who is that famous person who gets everything for free because I'm not that person and I want to be that person.' Or, at least meet that person."
NEW YORK— Canadian supermarket fast-fashion retail brand Joe Fresh has opened a store in New York City's Flatiron district—and the company is thinking about rolling out across the US, opening 300 to 500 stores nationally. WWD reports that prices in the company's first NYC location run about $39 for pleather skirts, $69 for cashmere sweaters, faux shearling coats for $99, and $14 for turtlenecks. Silk shirts, jeans, and merino sweaters run about $19 to $39. "We try to belie the price," said founder Joseph Mimran. "There are a lot of players in this niche."
THE WHITE HOUSE— On Halloween, Michelle Obama got into the holiday spirit by wearing a black-and-orange striped dress from ASOS. Our first lady shops at ASOS too!
