Nicolas Cage, a big name in Hollywood, previously spilled the beans on why he’s steering clear of the famed Star Wars franchise. Despite being a heavyweight in the industry, Cage, known for his diverse roles, admitted that the allure of the distant galaxy isn’t pulling him in.

In a chat with Yahoo! Entertainment’s Kevin Polowy, Cage, attributed his disinterest to being a die-hard Trekkie, expressing his preference for Star Trek’s depth. He said,

“I’m not really down. I’m a Trekkie, man. I’m on the Star Trek Enterprise. That’s where I roll.”

Nicolas Cage does not want to be in The Mandalorian or the Star Wars universe (sorry, Pedro Pascal).

“I’m a Trekkie. That’s where I roll… I’m not in the Star Wars family. I’m in the Star Trek family.”

He also commended the performances in the sci-fi series and its exploration of political and sociological themes. The actor explained,

“I grew up watching [William] Shatner. I thought Pine was terrific in the movies. I think the movies are outstanding. I like the political and the sociological [messages]. To me, what science fiction is really all about and why it’s such an important genre is that really you can say whatever you want, however you feel.”

During an interview, Cage’s co-star in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Pedro Pascal, nudged him toward the Star Wars universe. Yet, when Cage politely declined, Pascal understood and acknowledged Cage’s intellectual loyalty to Star Trek, appreciating his nuanced perspective.

As per Yahoo Entertainment, he responded,

“You know, Nic is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. And I think that makes sense in terms of how cerebral and puzzle-making a lot of Star Trek is.”

Cage’s choice reveals that not every Hollywood luminary is drawn to Star Wars, leaving the iconic franchise to journey on without his enigmatic presence. Interestingly, it’s not the only franchise Cage has turned down, adding another layer to his selective approach to navigating the cinematic landscape.

Nicolas Cage, the Hollywood icon, previously turned down Star Wars and various other intriguing opportunities. It showcases his penchant for diverse and unconventional roles.

This decision adds another layer to Cage’s already mysterious persona, leaving fans curious about the roles he chose to pass up. Despite his undeniable chemistry with the 48-year-old in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Cage opted out of joining the Star Wars universe, sparking questions about the underlying reasons.

Delving into his career decisions, Cage disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter in 2022 that family played a pivotal role. He rejected the role of Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings and the chance to be Neo in The Matrix to avoid prolonged separations from his son. He stated,

“I wouldn’t leave [my son] Weston to be in New Zealand for three years shooting The Lord of the Rings or The Matrix. My choice was always wanting to stay in L.A. and be with my son.”

This revelation sheds light on Cage’s selective approach, infusing intrigue into his professional journey. As he continues to navigate the cinematic landscape, his choices provide a unique glimpse into his distinctive taste and the delicate balance he maintains between career and family.
