After a truly eventful season, Hollywood is ready to close out all the award shows with the most highly anticipated ceremony of them all: the 2018 Oscars. And as history has shown, this red carpet has given us some of the most elegant, glamorous fashion of all time. (Hey, if there's a time and place for a fresh-off-the-runway dress to make its debut, it's at the biggest night in show business, right?)

The Oscars' reputation for showstopping fashion hasn't changed one bit—who would expect otherwise with nominees like Margot Robbie, Mary J. Blige, and Saoirse Ronan hitting the step-and-repeat? Though in 2018 one can expect an additional layer of symbolism making its way down any red carpet: Like we saw in last year, when actors wore ACLU ribbons with their gowns and suits, Academy Award attendees used their platform to support political and social causes by fastening pins representing Time's Up and Everytown for Gun Safety to their ensembles. The Oscars mark the end of a season where red-carpet dressing served as a vehicle for protest, so plenty of celebrities took a moment to commemorate the many causes that have dominated the conversation over the past few months.

From 2018's history-making nominees to the star-studded list of presenters, see every look from the 2018 Oscars red carpet ahead.
