Part 2 - Screening of the season two premiere of Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best
Okay, so mark your calendar and don't make plans for Tuesday night because that is when the the season premiere airs at 9 p.m. ET on WEtv. I really think thati it is hands down the most hilarious—and even poignant—reality series on right now. I was laughing so hard that I think I snorted at one point.
The gist of this episode is that Joan wants to get plastic surgery--again--to tighten up her neck after her make-up artist on the Fashion Police notices it's sagging a bit. Melissa is not happy that her mother wants to go under the knife and stages a "Skintervention." Without really spoiling what happens (because trust me, you need to watch if only to get some laughs in for the week) here are some of my favorite lines from Joan during the episode.
"Selfish is going to a sale with one Gucci bag left and you take it." - Joan's response to Melissa after she calls her selfish for getting more plastic surgery and risking her life.
"My body is my temple and my temple needs redecorating." - Joan on why she wants this procedure done.
"I'm not getting the full Chaz Bono--just a touch up!" - Joan to Melissa after she continues to freak out that she is going through with more plastic surgrey.
"My face hasn't been this devoid of makeup since the day I was born." - Joan on her way into surgery.
The thing about the show that really struck me was an emotional moment that Joan and Melissa shared before she went into surgery. Even at 78 years old, Joan still feels a lot of pressure to look a certain way in Hollywood. I found myself tearing up during this moment—especially because Melissa was so worried about the risks her mother was willing to take just to meet this standard of beauty. So while the show overall is hilarious . . .it's still nice to see those real mother and daughter moments too.
