According to the royal family, Beatrice borrowed two sentimental pieces from her grandmother Queen Elizabeth II: a vintage ivory wedding dress by Norman Hartnel and the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara. That means Beatrice donned a piece from the same designer who created the queen's own wedding gown and the actual tiara her grandmother wore on her wedding day to Prince Philip in 1947.

The Queen Mary fringe tiara was crafted in 1919 by Garrad and Co. out of diamond necklaces given to Queen Elizabeth's grandmother Queen Mary on her 1893 wedding day from Queen Victoria. It features 47 bars of diamonds.

According to the jeweler's website, the queen (a princess at the time) was lent the tiara by her mother to be worn as her “something borrowed.” However, on the day of the wedding, the tiara snapped as she was getting ready. Thankfully, the piece was rushed to the Garrard workshop and repaired in time for the ceremony.

"The queen saved this grand tiara specifically for Beatrice. It was always reserved for her as they are exceptionally close,” a source told People, adding that the tiara is “arguably the most sentimental [piece] lent from the queen yet.”
