Ray Emodi family
Ray Emordi is the son of Okey Emodi and Senator Joy Emodi. The late Okey Emodi was a PhD holder, a seasoned economist, educationist and administrator. He passed away on August 13, 2019, at the age of 77.
Senator Joy Emodi, his mother (born May 23, 1955), was declared the winner of the Anambra North Senatorial District election in the 2003 election. However, the election result was overturned against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and Emmanuel Anosike was subsequently declared the winner. She appealed the decision and the Election Petition Tribunal in January 2004 declared her as the legitimate winner of the election. After a further year of appeal, the decision of the tribunal was upheld and she was sworn in as a Senator in February 2005.
She was re-elected for a second term in 2007 but it was annulled by the courts, which ruled in favour of Alphonsus Igbeke, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate. Joy Emodi also contested in the 2011 election but was defeated.
Ray Emodi once had this to say while speaking about his mother:
Senator Joy Emodi is a role model. I don’t know if she has ever said this in any interview and she has done so many interviews. But there was a point in her life, I think she was pregnant and she was in law school and she had a fashion house with people working for her; she would go to Anambra, Onitsha I think, to go and buy materials herself. She was pregnant while doing this and still made it through law school.
“When she gave birth to us she was still hustling, she tried to make it in politics which is also a saturated market. You have children, (and) you are a woman; so when you come, they look at you as a woman and there is another man that wants the same job that you want and they might think that this other man might be more credible than you, this is the impulsive response to seeing a woman and she made it in spite of all those challenges.”
As mentioned earlier, Ray Emorsi has two sisters: Nneka Emodi-Eze and Chibogu Illozue; and a brother: Onyechi Emodi.
The actor is not married and has no wife, as of the time this piece was written.
