I'm truely amazed that some of our(Amtrak) switching locomotives, as old as they are, are still running and hard at work. Believe it when I tell you, Amtrak is sending it's P40 road engines into storage or possible sale(VRE is using one as we speak), all the while other engines have 40 to 50 years of service. P40's hit the property in 1992/1993...go figure. We still have SW1's(working) on the property. Three that I know of(2 in DC; 1 in DE). There's no respect for the aging, whether it's a human, a car, a plane, rail equipment, a building. I wish sometimes we can stop and appreciate the things that are still working for us and give it a little tlc. They would probably last longer.
