Stealing the Sacred Idol from the druids can have some severe consequences. It can change a few endings, end or alter other quests in the game, and, interestingly, change the environment and lives around Baldur's Gate.

How To Start Steal the Sacred Idol

Baldur's Gate 3 Mol

After completing the 'Investigate the Beach' quest, the tiefling child, Mol, will give you the 'Steal the Sacred Idol' quest. After you have saved Mirkon and talked with Mol in the 'Investigate the Beach' quest, you will have access to the tiefling's hideout. Head inside the hideout and speak with Mol.

Saving Arabella from Kagha will also let you enter the tiefling's hideout, but you must Persuade Doni first to get access to the hideout.

During your conversation, offer Mol your help by choosing "Thought you might need help with something." She will tell you that she wants revenge on the druid by stealing the idol they are chanting. She will further reveal that this idol is for a ritual that will remove all the tieflings from the Grove, thus endangering their lives. If you agree to steal the idol for Mol, she will promise you a cut of the money they will get after selling it once they reach the city.

Steal The Sacred Idol Walkthrough

Your primary goal is to steal the idol of Sylvanus and bring it back to Mol. This can be completed in a few different ways. However, stealing the idol from the druids can trigger several reactions from the druids. These reactions mainly depend on the actions you took before this quest. The idol can be found in the Sacred Pool in Emerald Grove.

Peaceful Approach

During your previous encounter with Kagha in the 'Investigate Kagha' side quest, you will be given the choice to expose Kagha and find the ultimate motive behind her actions to drive the tieflings out. Choosing this path of the quest will convince her to stop the ritual called 'Rite of Thorns' around the idol of Sylvanus, thus making it much easier for her to steal.

Even if you convince Kagha to stop the ritual, you might still have to fight the druids when you steal the idol. You can perform a Deception or Intimidation check on the guard to get away with the idol or use the Invisibility spell to steal the idol without anyone noticing. This is the most peaceful and recommended solution to this quest.

Killing all the Goblin leaders will also result in the druids stopping the ritual. But if you have already killed all the Goblin leaders before completing the quest, Mol will not reward you with the Ring of Protection.

Triggering A Civil War

If you haven't stopped the ritual, you can follow another way to complete the quest, but this one is fierce. Walk up to the idol as the druids perform their ritual and steal it. This will alert all the druids around the idol, and a cutscene will play, which shows the druids attacking the tieflings in the Grove. The battle of you and the tiefling vs. the druids will spread around the Grove and have severe consequences in the game's story.

If you are yet to complete the 'Save the Refugees' quest, killing Kagha during the battle will automatically trigger the storyline where you support the tieflings, thus making you an Enemy of Justice. This will result in the druid guards trying to attack you when you encounter them in the Druid Groves.

Several NPC will also lose their lives in the battle. You can loot their shop and body for fantastic loot during the battle. Moreover, Nettie and Sazza will be dead after this quest, too. All these deaths will affect all the quests related to these characters and some endings.

After you get the idol, return it to the tiefling hideout and give it to Mol. She will then reward you with the Ring of Protection. You can also decide to keep the idol for yourself, boosting your Nature and Animal Handling skills.
