Tim Burton is a master of his own craft especially when it comes to films with gothic and macabre themes. Because many of his creations have turned into classics, fans demand sequels and even reboots. While the director is open to these kinds of options, he does not want people to touch The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Released in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas became a cult favorite among fans as a highly esteemed animated film. The fame of the franchise urged Disney to explore more of its world, as evident in its other iterations in various media, such as video games and novels. Though, it seems the creator of the story wants it to be left alone.

Tim Burton Says No To The Possibility Of A Sequel For The Nightmare Before Christmas

During his interview with Empire, director Tim Burton talked about The Nightmare Before Christmas in celebration of its 30th anniversary, asserting that the film is very dear to him and he does not want any sequels:

To me, the movie is very important. I’ve done sequels, I’ve done other things, I’ve done reboots, I’ve done all that sh*t, right? I don’t want that to happen to this.”

He acknowledged the support of fans for the movie, though he firmly reiterated that this franchise is his property, and like an old man wanting to protect his land, he would do anything to drive off anyone who would dare touch it:

It’s nice that people are maybe interested [in another one], but I’m not. I feel like that old guy who owns a little piece of property and won’t sell to the big power-plant that wants to take my land. ‘Get off of my land! You pesky little… You ain’t getting this property! I don’t care what you want to build on it. You come on my property… Where’s my shotgun?’

The filmmaker also raved about his fondness for Jack Skellington, a character that is “perceived as dark, but is really light”:

Those are the kinds of things that I love, whether it’s [Edward] Scissorhands or Batman, characters that have that. It represented all those feelings that I had. I was perceived as this dark character when I didn’t feel that way. So it was a very personal character.”

While Burton remains resolute about his decision not to create any sequels for The Nightmare Before Christmas, many fans demand a continuation.

Personally id just like a remake. Nothing bad with the original, but like with older star wars i think a remake would benefit from modern tech and effects. Bad take im sure but i would think it’d be sick with some stuff akin to kubo and box trolls
