After skipping out on not one, but two episodes of the ABC morning newscast, viewers are wondering: Where is Robin Roberts on Good Morning America and what happened to her? We have all the details on the GMA anchor’s absence below.

Where is Robin Roberts on Good Morning America?

Roberts was noticeably missing from the June 17 and June 18 episodes of GMA, which she usually co-hosts with Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos. ABC News correspondent Rebecca Jarvis filled in for her during both episodes, but viewers are still curious about Roberts’ whereabouts and when she will return to the show.

As it turns out, Roberts has a good reason for missing the show. The journalist is currently in Portugal, where she is filming segments for GMA about the increasing number of Americans relocating and traveling to the country. As evidenced by her social media posts, Roberts is also enjoying the beautiful beaches and sunny weather.

Even while out of the country, Roberts kept up her tradition of sharing an uplifting passage with her followers. “Good morning from gorgeous Portugal! Perfect setting for Glam Fam & I to share with you our #tuesdaythoughts#cmon 😘,” she captioned a video of her and her glam team standing on a beach as she recited an inspiring message.

Roberts also previewed what is to come on GMA, sharing a video of herself interacting with several American tourists and residents. “We are meeting so many Americans all across Portugal…and we can’t wait to introduce you to some of them who now call this beautiful country home. Much more coming up on @goodmorningamerica!” she wrote in the caption.

As for when fans can expect to see her back at the desk, Robins will be in Portugal for the rest of the week, providing live coverage and reporting. “This is incredible, the beautiful beaches of Portugal,” she said in a video posted on her Instagram Story. “There’s so much that we’re going to share with you all week long.” The news anchor also shared a behind-the-scenes photo on her story, captioned: “Said it before and I’ll say it again… I LOVE my job!”

The first segment from her trip aired during the June 18 episode and it was later shared on GMA.com. “ABC News’ Robin Roberts takes a look at the country’s beautiful beaches, and looks at why Americans are flocking to live and vacation there,” the segment was captioned. At one point in the package, Roberts revealed that the number of Americans moving to Portugal has increased by 239 percent since 2017.

Roberts has been a co-anchor on Good Morning America since 2005. Prior to that, she was a sportscaster for ESPN from 1990 to 2005, as well as a feature reporter for ABC News. In 2009, George Stephanopoulos joined her as a co-anchor, replacing Diane Sawyer. Under Roberts and Stephanopoulos’ partnership, Good Morning America has thrived and is now the No. 1 morning talk show, beating out NBC’s Today, which held the spot for 16 years.
