Lagos is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. It is also one of the most densely populated cities, with over 15 million people living in metropolitan areas. Many people believe the city is a crazy place to live, mostly due to its constant traffic and lack of planning. But that is usually common with commercial cities in the world.

Lagos may not be described as the most touristic destination in the world as most people who live or visit the city do so for business purposes. However, there are equally fun places to visit in Lagos. You don’t have to break the bank to enjoy yourself in some of these places. So if you’re in Lagos and wondering where to visit for fun, you’re in the right place.

Top 10 must-visit sites while in Lagos

1. Badagry

Badagry beach

Badagry was my first tourist destination when I visited Lagos in 2014, which is why it is first on the list. The experience was great as there are many fun sites to visit in the ancient town. Badagry is a town that is rich in history and culture. The first storey building in Nigeria was built in 1842 by missionaries and overlooks the Marina waterfront.

Also, the Badagry Heritage Museum holds hundreds of relics and historical artifacts chronicling over 300 years of slavery movement from the town through the Atlantic ocean to Europe and the Americas. The indigenous people largely depend on fishing and farming for the economy. Badagry also boasts of the coconut beach and other beautiful beaches in town. See ehn, if you’ve been to Lagos and you haven’t visited Badagry, you have missed out on a lot. The most beautiful part is that non of these tourist sites are expensive.

Silverbird Galleria

I said this before and I will say it again, I’m a movie person. So, the cinemas will always appeal to me. The Silverbird Galleria, located on Victoria Island, not only has the Silverbird cinema, but also various shops for luxury items. So even if you don’t want to watch a movie, you can always go shopping or feast your eyes on the beautiful displays. While touring the place, you can branch at any one of the nice restaurants and enjoy a meal.

3. Nike Art Gallery

Nike Art Gallery

Did I forget to mention that I’m a Thespian who loves art? This is why I present the Nike Art Gallery as the third must-visit site in Lagos. The place was founded by Oyenike Monica Okundaye and showcases a unique art gallery, workshop, and artist retreat. You will find Nigerian sculptors, craftsmen, and artists honing their skills there. The best of African art collections is displayed there by Nike herself. The fun part is you will not be charged for entry, and you can buy any artistic items for sale.

4. The new Afrika Shrine

The new Afrika Shrine

Mehn, Lagos nightlife is fuunnnnn!!! If you’re in Lagos and you’ve never heard of the new Afrika Shrine where everything is happening, you should probably check if you’re on the right timeline. The Afrika Shrine was founded by the legendary Fela Kuti in Ikeja Lagos. The place is now managed by his sons, Seun Kuti and Femi Kuti. You will enjoy the most memorable and inspiring story-telling lyrics, political education, sacrosanct palm wine, and a good lesson in “shaking-it.” This is what makes it among the best tourist attractions. Check out France President, Emmanuel Macron having the best time of his life on his last visit to the shrine.

If you’re a fan of Nigeria’s history and culture, then visit the National Museum, Lagos. The museum is located at Onikan, Lagos, and was established back in 1957 before independence. It has great and attractive collections in ethnography, archaeology, and traditional art. Some of the best galleries are dedicated to Benin brasses. The museum also houses the bullet-riddled car that belonged to Nigeria’s former Head of State, Murtala Muhammed, who was assassinated in 1976. National Theatre

As a Thespian, I can’t mention fun places to visit in Lagos without mentioning the National Arts Theatre. I dey craze? It is a cultural landmark and architectural masterpiece, that is one of the best structures in Nigeria that has stood the test of time. Built by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon in 1976 and later completed by General Olusegun Obasanjo, the National Arts Theatre is a unique house of ancient art that is progressing into modern art. It is a place where tourists can enjoy play performances and other art forms while enjoying the cool and lush environment.

Freedom Park

Wow, Lagos sure has some of the best historical sites. The Freedom Park, formerly Broad Street prison, was a colonial instrument of control. Today, it is a tourist site that chronicles the cultural heritage and history of Nigerians. The place also reveals the historical facts about Her Majesty, Queen of England. In addition, there are national memorials, cultural sites, recreational centres, historical landmarks, and arts. There, you will get to understand and appreciate humanity’s triumph over all forms of tyranny and the liberation of the human spirit. The Freedom Park is located on Lagos Island.

La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort

La Campagne is another great beach resort to escape from the busy life of Lagos. It is a very calm location on the outskirts of Lagos. The beach is clean and beautiful with several properties that are available to ensure your stay is fun and memorable. You can also lodge in the well-furnished chalets especially if you’re coming from a far distance which is usually the case.
