Forget traditional engagement rings, Millennials are choosing to have a diamond pierced into their skin instead.
NEW YORK (WTHR) — The latest in engagement ring trends has nothing to do with a ring at all and everything to do with a piercing.
Instead of a traditional ring, some Millennials are having diamonds pierced into their ring fingers, WCBS reported.
The procedure takes about 10 minutes and costs $100. Healing can take up to 20 weeks.
But not everyone thinks this is a good idea.
Health experts say the diamond can damage important structures in the hands.
"First of all, these procedures are not being done by a doctor and it is a surgical procedure. There are a lot of important structures that sit under the skin that can be damaged, like tendons," said Dr. Monica Halem, a dermatologist told WCBS.
And if someone with the piercing wants it removed, it is more painful to do so.
