SpongeBob Movie Rehydrated Explained

According to the creators, they worked on “SpongeBob Movie Rehydrated” for around two years. The movie is a non-profit recreation of a 2004 film, SpongeBob SquarePants The Movie, and the team wanted to create this film as a tribute to Stephen Hillenburg.

As per the project’s Twitter account, more than 400+ people worked on the fan-made project, and they used “original art, animation, voice acting, and music.” The film was in the making for a couple of years, and the team finally put out the movie on YouTube yesterday. However, Paramount Pictures, the production house that holds rights to the original SpongeBob movie, took down the project from the platform through a copyright claim.

We will get this sorted and put it up on the Newgrounds soon. For now, don't refresh the stream, try and find somewhere to watch it and don't worry because you WILL see the full thing at some point!

The project received a copyright claim within an hour of its release on YouTube. “SpongeBob Movie Rehydrated” creators confirmed the news on their official Twitter handle, and it instantly got the community talking. “JusticeforSpongebob” is trending on Twitter as fans started questioning Paramount’s decision to copyright claim the project.

For the last 2 years, this dedicated team of passionate fans recreated the SpongeBob movie brick by brick with unique animation & voice acting. It was a love letter to the franchise and what did Paramount do? They blocked it. I think that summarizes Paramount's "respect" for fans
