We’re going to keep this list of “Survivor: Australia” filming locations to the more modern seasons, kicking things off with the first reboot series that aired in 2016 and 2017. If you remember watching those seasons as they aired or are just now getting to them you’ve probably wondered to yourself: ‘Where is “Survivor: Australia” filmed? Turns out, it wasn’t in Australia at all. They filmed these first reboot seasons on Upolu, the most populous island in Samoa. This was such an iconic location that they also filmed two other seasons of “Survivor” on this beautiful and exotic island.

Papaseea Sliding Rocks

If you’re ever planning a trip there yourself, take a note from this article on Tripzilla for a place you’ve got to see. “When you get there, be sure to visit the Papaseea Sliding Rocks. Fans will recognise this from one of the Survivor: South Pacific reward challenges! The cluster of small waterfalls is nature’s awesome version of a water theme park, suitable for all ages. Be sure to visit for a refreshingly cool escape from the tropical Samoan heat.”

Upolu extreme events

While Upolu is quite the beautiful filming location for a show like “Survivor: Australia,” it also comes with its risks. An article on Fodors tells us just how risky it could be for the production: “While contestants of Samoa were lucky to never run into a natural disaster of their own, they cut it close with an earthquake and tsunami hitting the area just mere days after filming. Otherwise beautiful though, no?” We’re hoping to see “Survivor: Australia” take a trip back to this gorgeous island for future seasons.

Let’s continue on our trek through time answering the question “Where is “Survivor: Australia” filmed?” Next, we are covering the three seasons that shared the same filming location from 2018 to 2020. They were all shot in Savusavu, on Fiji’s northern island.

In fact, this area was challenging for the years that it was “Survivor: Australia’s setting. According to fijiislands.com.au, it is is still a local hidden treasure. “Located on Fiji’s northern island of Vanua Levu, Savusavu is considered one of Fiji’s best kept secrets.  Affectionately termed “the hidden paradise of Fiji”, this area is known for its natural beauty, spectacular diving, local hospitality and sustainable, eco-friendly resorts.”

If you’re looking to take your own trip to Savusavu, Fiji Pocket Guide wants you to know that it’s a rare combination of beautiful and convenient. “With an airport, plenty of nearby accommodation and the Hibiscus Highway, Savusavu makes an excellent base to pick up a rental car and start exploring Vanua Levu. You’ll find it a world away from the tourist hotspots of Viti Levu”.

This was the last time they filmed “Survivor: Australia” in Fiji. At least, for the foreseeable future.
