Where is the Gallagher house located?

If you’re a fan of “Shameless,” you’ve probably been watching the Gallaghers having a conversation on their South Side Chicago porch and wondered, “Where is the house from ‘Shameless’?” Fans will be happy to know that the house looks so authentic to the setting of the show because it’s located right in Chicago in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

According to an article on Otakukart, the owner is glad to have fans stop by. “The current resident of the real Shameless house is in the Southside of Chicago, Illinois also has a signboard attached to the house that says that any donations are encouraged and also received lots of small contributions from fans because of her hospitality. She encourages all the fans to visit the house at least once.” 

The owner of the home isn’t the only one who loves fans coming to visit the set. From an interview with producer John Wells in the Chicago Tribune: “It’s a wonderful feeling to think that your story telling may have touched people enough that they would actually take some time out of their day to get on the train or whatever and come on down and see us. Very reassuring because we’re working 12 to 13-hour days. A lot of times it’s pretty chilly in Chicago and then to see people come out and brave that is a wonderful feeling. So, thank you.”

Neighbors and friends of the Gallagher clan, Kev and V, also have a home just a couple of doors down. If you’ve been wondering to yourself, “Where is the house from ‘Shameless’?” You’ve got your answer and can see why it’s a location that the production team has been so happy to return to time and time again.

Where are other famous “Shameless” locations?

Many of the outdoor shots of the Gallagher home were shot in Southside Chicago. However, like many productions, they shot the bulk of the scenes in Los Angeles.

For instance, fans may have wondered about the pie shop that Fiona worked at. According to an article on Cheat Sheet, “While many of the locations that Shameless mentions are places in Chicago, Patsy’s Pies is not one. The cafe that Fiona Gallagher ran for so long is based on a real site called Patsy’s Place. However, when they show the exterior of the restaurant, it is the real-life Golden House Restaurant. For the interior, it is a studio in Burbank.” 

Another classic location from the show is the bar Kev and V own, The Alibi Room. There is some truth to it being in Chicago but that isn’t the full story according to this article in drivinbin.com. “There is a real Alibi Bar in Chicago, but it looks like that bar was established after the show became popular. The bar in the show is really in Burbank, California. Warner Bros studio lot holds the keys to the bar that’s rumored to be modeled after Moe’s bar in The Simpsons.”
