Well… this is a difficult one to explain. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a 1999 drama series that has returned for its 25th season in present times. With a group of New York cops forming the Special Victims Unit, the team handles cases only related to s*xual assault and harassment.

Well, a recent episode of the series is facing immense controversies and backlash from the people. With a sensitive and controversial case of r*pe, the episode claimed that white people shouldn’t seek justice against Blacks because they are not privileged.

Claiming that the woman was woke, she decided not to press charges against the r*pist because of the unfairness of the judicial system. Taking to X, people showed no mercy to the show as countless comments and tweets bombarded the show for showing a negative message for the people about how white people shouldn’t opt for justice!

Woke character in Law & Order is a white woman who was r*ped by a black guy. She declines to press charges because she’s privileged and doesn’t want the black perpetrator to go to jail.

Mariska Hargitay is the lead actor who portrays the role of Olivia Benson. Starting off as a detective, her character quickly rose through the ranks until she made squad captain. In an interview with People, here’s what Hargitay had to say about her character.

“As I became more comfortable with the character, you saw this powerful woman emerge. In a way it was a rebirth, and that was powerful and exciting and beautifully uncomfortable to reckon with one’s own power.”

She further continued,

“We’ve been on a parallel journey. There’s a thing WWOBD, what would Olivia Benson do? The fans would always talk about it, and one day it hit me. I also have those moments where I’ve sort of slipped into her. If there’s a crisis, I just take over and lead like that. Being strong and fearless. It’s sort of this perfect feminist story.”

Usually receiving an average rating of nearly 8/10 on IMDB, the controversial episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit received a meager 4.3/10 on IMDB. With the next episode on the verge of release, the iconic American series is available to stream on Peacock Premium in the U.S.
